Both are great ways to see Vancouver, but they suit different rides. Here’s how we’d help you choose when you come into the shop, so you can decide before you arrive if you’d rather.
Traditional Bikes: Best For
- Shorter rides — the Stanley Park loop, English Bay, a quick trip along Denman Street
- Anyone who wants the exercise, not just the ride
- Flat routes with no significant hills, which covers most of Vancouver’s seawall and downtown bike paths
- Keeping costs lower, since standard bikes rent for less per hour than e-bikes
E-Bikes: Best For
- Longer distances — the full 28 km seawall, or riding out to Kitsilano and back
- Riding with kids or a group where paces differ, since the motor evens things out
- Hillier routes, like heading up toward Queen Elizabeth Park or the North Shore
- Anyone who wants to arrive without being out of breath — handy if biking is part of a bigger day of sightseeing
Cost Difference
E-bikes typically rent for a bit more per hour than a standard bike, which reflects the extra maintenance and battery charging involved. For a short spin around Stanley Park, a traditional bike is usually the better value. For anything past about 10-12 km round trip, or if hills are involved, the e-bike’s higher rate tends to pay for itself in how much more comfortable the ride is.
Our Recommendation
If you’re not sure, tell us your route when you arrive at 679 Denman St and we’ll point you to the right one — for most first-time visitors doing the Stanley Park loop, a standard bike is plenty. If you’re planning the full seawall or riding with kids, ask about our e-bikes. Either way, check out our seawall guide for the route details once you’ve picked your ride.
